Drawings:

A part is only described properly when 3D data and 2D data (=drawing) have been completed. All the information that cannot be read from a 3D data file, such as the material and legal references (requirement specs), is being documented in 2D. The 2D drawing is a legally binding document and therefore very important. All changes of the parts - even only 3D modifications - are listed in the drawing. The creation of drawings is always looked after in the development department, especially by the designer, which only he is capable of, because he knows the parts in depth. In addition he always has to be well informed about the parts' latest requirements (e.g. surface, material, standards,...).
